Jobs in NGO’s, foundations, nonprofit, public sector…

Imagine a triangular table, with three legs. You need the three legs to be of equal length so as to have a stable and well balanced table. Now imagine this table is your job. And the legs are the following:

  1. The tasks = the ‘what
  2. The workplace = the ‘where and how
  3. The mission = the ‘why

Some of our clients discovered that they had been focusing on changing jobs, hoping that the workplace was the cause for their lack of professional well-being regardless of their passion and talent for the tasks they were asked to do. But at the end of the day, even if they find more friendly environments, less stressful, more professional, etc.. they still find themselves unsatisfied. When we work on analysing their values and priorities in depth, it jumps out at them that the cause of this was the other leg: the mission of the companies or organisations they had been working for.

In the private sector, maybe most of the actors’ real mission is just profit making. But it doesn’t necessarily have to be like this. There are companies that while seeking to get profit, have a mission (we are talking about the real one, not the one many companies state for marketing purposes) that is meaningful to you.

If you are more concerned with social, environmental, educational or cultural aspects, it might be more probable to find that ‘proper leg’ in the so called ‘third sector’: nonprofit organisations, NGO’s, foundations… or the ‘public sector’.

This module will give you as a deliverable your current One-Page-Me® for having clarity and focus, including:

  • What you really want to accomplish in life.
  • What are your main values and priorities.
  • The strengths you want to leverage on.
  • Your happiness drivers.

Which concrete activities –and under what specific conditions- do you simultaneously perform really well and enjoy, and which you’d rather avoid in order to be fulfilled?

This module will help you achieve the following deliverables:

  • A detailed list of your “strengths” and “weaknesses” in terms of talents+passions+context conditions.
  • A methodology to re-apply by yourself in the future so as to complete this inventory in the light of your future experiences.

Methodology and tools:

  • 1 hour individual session with a career coach of OrientaEuro.
  • Gallup and Marcus Buckingham’s models short introduction and discussion with the coach.
  • Case studies.
  • Preparation of your first ‘index cards’ with your strengths and weaknesses.

Skills comprehensive inventory module (SA.5)

Are you conscious about all your skills, which ones could be appealing for the job market and which ones are more crucial for you to use in order to feel fulfilled?

This module will help you achieve the following deliverables:

  • A comprehensive, ordered list of skills with a transferable description you can use to “sell” them.
  • A comprehensive, ordered list of skills with a transferable description you can use to “sell” them.
    A concrete definition on what to do with the skills you have, with those that you don’t and with those that you are not sure about.

Methodology and tools:

  • 1-hour individual session with a career coach of OrientaEuro.
  • Activity based on the usage of a proprietary set of skills cards that will allow you to visualise dozens of potential skills, be able to name them so as to ‘sell’ them later on and define what you would like to do with them.
  • Discussion with the coach so as to make specific decisions.

SWOT analysis and Action Plan definition module (DM.2)

How to leverage on your Strengths, avoid being confronted with your Weaknesses, exploit your Opportunities and avoid the probability and negative impact of your Threats

This module will help you achieve the following deliverables:

  • A comprehensive table with your key strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.
  • A specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, time-bound action plan to:
    • – Leverage on your strengths
    • – Avoid being confronted with your weaknesses
    • – Exploit your opportunities
    • – Reduce the probability and negative impact of your threats.

Methodology and tools:

  • 2 hours individual intensive session with a career coach of OrientaEuro.
  • SWOT analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats).
  • Brainstorming together with the coach, to derive possible actions from the SWOT analysis.
  • Selection and prioritization of key actions.
  • Definition of your own, concrete action plan.
